I researched, and tested in person, a bunch of different mattresses. I found this one on a whim when I searched online, I was skeptical buying online without being able to test it, but I trusted the reviews. I’m glad I did.
PACKAGING: The package is pretty heavy, I’m a strong, young guy and it wasn’t a back breaker but I could see some people struggle with it. After unwrapping it, it puffed up to full size within the first half hour, I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. I’ve seen it take a few hours in some reviews.
FIRMNESS: I laid on about 10 different memory foam mattresses during my search, this is definitely on the softer side. Everyone has different interpretations of “plush” or “firm”, but this one is definitely a little on the softer side. You’ll feel yourself sinking into the foam, so if you like firmer mattresses, this one probably isn’t for you.
HEAT: I never knew heat was a thing with memory foam mattresses until I read reviews, but I kind of got the hint when I noticed “cool” being in a lot of the advertising. Well it’s a real thing. I definitely felt the heat, I like being warm, so it didn’t bother me personally, although I did have to take my comforter off at one point because I was sweating. I could definitely see it bothering some people.
PRICE: I thought it was a great deal. Bob’s Discount Furniture wanted $200 more for a generic, no name brand, version of the same thing. Sealy is a great brand, and the price is very reasonable based off of the quality and the brand.
SMELL: I’ve seen some reviews really complaining about smell on other mattresses. It has a slight “new plastic” smell, but it’s definitely not overwhelming or unbearable. I stopped noticing it after the first few minutes.
OVERALL: I can deal with the minor issues like the heat. As soon as I laid on this mattress I could feel my back and shoulders loosening up. I can sleep on my stomach now, pain free, but can’t do that on most other mattressses. It’s a great buy, and it really helped with my pain/discomfort! Just be aware of the heat and firmness, I’m a very easy going person, not picky, I could see those being issues for some people!
I was so hesitant to order a mattress that was this affordable...
Amazing mattress! Switched from a 10 year old Tempurpedic that we LOVED!
I contacted Sealy directly and this mattress does NOT contain fiberglass or any chemicals in their memory foam!
I did have an oder for over a week but it go away after airing out! Also, it did take 2 days to fully expand and become firm enough for my liking.
I did read to chose the 12" over the 10" and it is worth every penny!

This thing is fantastic!! It "inflated" or whatever almost instantly. We waited the excruciating 48hrs though. It's HEAVY too, mine was 105 shipping weight. Looks great, feels great, overall.. great! I'll report back when it starts to sag but it looks like this particular item is being discontinued (no long available elsewhere) so it may not do much good. But, if you're on the fence, DO IT! I read the bad reviews on here and was hesitant at first, but those are probably for the 8" one. Memory foam is a game changer. Worth every cent.
I have always skimped on my mattresses and went with whatever was cheapest (usually a pillow top). I decided to look into memory foam mattresses since I had a failed back surgery and have multiple bulging discs. Best decision ever! I LOVE this mattress. It is a firm mattress, but is super soft and gives just a tiny bit so you're still comfortable if you're a side sleeper like me. I use this mattress on an adjustable bed frame which just makes everything heavenly. This mattress had no odor when unboxing and inflates very quick. It seemed to inflate fully almost instantly, but I did wait 24hrs before using it. I did give sleep quality 4 stars because the mattress does get a little hot, and I'm already a hot sleeper so that is a little bothersome, but it honestly isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
The bed is comfortable being not too hard and not too soft. Also, it is recommended to rotate (not flip) the mattress every 6 months. The layers of foam are gently firm at first contact and then gradually sink in to conform the body, but not to sink in too far in, just right. I'm a side sleeper 6ft and 220 pounds. I think if I was to get the 10 or 8 inch I would have been unhappy because they may have been firmer based upon other people responses with those two mattresses, but I never know since I didn't buy them.
I have only slept on it 4 nights so far, and it is so much better than my last saggy 3rd (or 4th)-hand mattress. New beds usually need some getting used to, so this is just the initial impression.
First though, the packaging: as soon as you can, get this thing where you want it to be. I had to wait a few days to get my brother to help me haul this and the frame up the stairs and move my old stuff, and waiting longer would have been a bad idea, as the compression bag had at least one small hole in it. I heard it begin to hiss as soon as I unrolled (not cut) the outer wrap. I've heard of memory foam boxes "exploding" at ups warehouses because of a puncture, that would have been unpleasant anywhere in my house. It puffed up quick, I'm glad I had it where it needed to be.
Now, I read a lot of reviews on this and some people said it was too firm and some said too soft, and those are all really subjective. I think it's official "medium firm" rating seems accurate. I don't feel like I'm sinking into a downy cloud, nor do I feel like I'm sleeping on a slab of wood. I tend to prefer firmer mattresses (in fact, a futon on the floor is fine in my opinion), and this feels not too soft.
I can't say I'm 100% back pain free, but I did just move an ancient hide-a-bed couch, a queen mattress and box spring, and wooden futons, up and down stairs, so I'm going to blame that, not the bed. I got this on deal of the day, and it was worth it, sight unseen.
